The Shrine Picks The Top 10 Talk Radio Afternoon Shows

Everyone loves a good show and we have picked ten of our favourites, the ones that made us laugh, moved us, or grab the popcorn and listen to a jolly good argument. There's all that in these and more. Enjoy our picks, you won't be disappointed. Please note they are in no particular order, just numbered for presentation.

Number 1 - "Bring Back Bullfighting"

The Bullfighting hour was Tommy Boyd at his finest. He goaded callers very well with this propositioning that Bullfighting should be reintroduced to the UK. The callers fell for the premise hook, line and sinker. There were cross words, swear words, insults and everything else. This was baiting at its best. Anyone who loves a show just for the arguments, they don't get any better than this.

Number 2 - "Celebrating Christmas"

This is great, Tommy celebrating Christmas in October. Not only are the killjoys out in force, but this hour culminates in a cracking call from incensed caller Rena. You can't help but feel good and get into the Christmas spirit, and it's got a couple of great arguments to boot.

Number 3 - "Was Jesus Half Italian?"

If you're a fan of arguments this is another hour full of them. Worth it for the final argument with John which is a corker. But they are littered throughout. Tommy's read the Talmud and he knows more than you do about it. He merely asks, was the Lord Half Italian?

Number 4 - "Peter Mills Penthouse"

Peter Mills, top ladies man, gives the female callers some lovely flirting and romancing, and teaches the men listening a thing or two about seduction. This is an epic classic, that spawned two different shows, both equally brilliant and amusing and alluring. Yes he was back for a second go due to popular demand...

Number 5 - "Gypsies"

This is a cracking tour-de-force, starting off attacking Gypsies and then celebrating them. Not only that but Simon from Hampshire ends up calling. This is for fans of arguments, and classic Tommy Boyd thinking outside of the box.

Number 6 - "We Need Another War"

Absolutely bonkers proposition, we need another war to solve all the worlds problems. The arguments ensue, and a solid hour of radio hits the airwaves. This is classic bait and wait and reel them in. Tommy again at his finest, both in his monologue and with the calls.

Number 7 - "End of the World"

Another classic featuring Simon from Hampshire and a caller showdown with him. Before this also chaos and hilarity, and great radio. This is another favourite show for the Shrine, and one we recommend listening to.

Number 8 - "Eat Seagulls"

Let's eat Seagulls. What a premise, and what a corker of an hour. You'll learn some interesting facts about Alka Seltzer's in this hour, among other things. It has the classic caller interaction, plenty of arguments and all the usual fun fare of an epic Tommy Boyd afternoon proposition.

Number 9 - "Elves Exist"

An enchanting hour of radio suggesting Elves are real, because Tommy has seen one when he was putting the bins out. Gripping, funny, argumentative and plenty of engaging banter make this one of our favourites.

Number 10 - "What's Your Favourite Cake"

Perhaps the most important question ever asked, what's your favourite cake? Gooey and delicious and luxurious and velvety hour, that will make you want to get to the nearest Cake shop or eat what's in your fridge straight after. Wonderful!
